Dubai: A rare collection of historic Gulf currency notes was recently showcased by Omar Al Zubair Al Marzouqi, a Dubai Police Major and personal advisor to H.E.Sheikh Maktoum bin Suhail Al Maktoum, highlighting an important chapter in the region’s financial and cultural history.

Among the notable exhibits were the first paper currency notes issued under the Qatar & Dubai Currency Board in 1966, along with a rare UAE one-dirham paper note issued in 1973. The collection attracted attention for its historical significance and remarkable preservation.

According to Al Marzouqi, the rare currency notes had been carefully preserved by his mother for many years, reflecting a deep appreciation for Gulf heritage and history.

The collection was presented alongside his friend Mohammad Riyadh, owner of Al Hikma Group for Transaction Services and Kandorati Men’s Tailoring. The showcase offered visitors a glimpse into the early monetary systems that existed before the establishment of modern Gulf currencies.

These historic notes are regarded as valuable artifacts representing the economic evolution of the Gulf region and the shared legacy of Qatar, Dubai, and the United Arab Emirates during the formative years of currency development.

The presentation also emphasized the importance of preserving historical memorabilia that helps connect younger generations with the region’s rich cultural and economic heritage.
