Dubai: Over 275 people from diverse faiths and backgrounds gathered at the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara in Dubai for the 13th annual interfaith iftar event, celebrating unity, compassion, and harmony during the holy month of Ramadan. The event, which took place on Wednesday, saw attendees from the Christian, Hindu, Sikh, and Muslim communities come together in a powerful display of religious tolerance and coexistence.

The gathering was graced by distinguished guests, including HE Mirza Al Sayegh, Consul General of India in Dubai Satish Kumar Sivan, HE Major General Ahmad Khalfan Al Mansoori and other prominent figures from the local authorities. The event underscored the UAE's commitment to promoting religious freedom, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence as core values. It also provided an opportunity for reflection on how such unity can be extended globally, bridging divides and promoting mutual respect.

Dr.Surender Singh Kandhari, Chairman of Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara, emphasized the spirit of compassion and service at the heart of both Ramadan and Sikhism. He shared a powerful message with the gathering: "Let us embrace the values of compassion and selflessness, which are at the heart of both Ramadan and Sikhism. By helping others, we not only serve a greater purpose but also make this world a kinder, more compassionate place."

Reflecting on the Year of Community, Dr.Kandhari also noted: "In the UAE, we are blessed with the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, whose vision always inspires us to come together as one community, regardless of our backgrounds, beliefs, or cultures. This Year of Community is not only about supporting each other during times of difficulty but also about celebrating the unity that makes us stronger. It encourages us to work hand in hand for a better, more inclusive society where no one is left behind."

The remarkable gathering of people from diverse cultures and faiths was celebrated by Bubbles Kandhari, Vice-Chairperson of Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara, who emphasized the importance of such gatherings. “Gatherings like this remind us of the strength in unity,” she said. “In moments like these, we experience the true spirit of understanding, compassion, and shared blessings that bring us closer together.”

In his remarks, Mirza Al Sayegh emphasized that all religions advocate for tolerance and peace, underscoring the importance of unity in diverse religious spaces. He also noted that Dubai and the UAE, under visionary leadership, have long been centers of coexistence, with people from over 200 nationalities living harmoniously. "If we talk about solidarity, this is what solidarity looks like," he said. "Here in the Gurudwara, we come together as one community, united in spirit, regardless of our faiths. This is the true essence of solidarity — supporting and standing by one another in moments of peace and reflection."

Satish Kumar Sivan, Consul General of India in Dubai, praised the Gurudwara for its role in promoting inclusivity. "Ramadan is the time when the spirit of unity comes to the forefront in the best possible way," he said. "This gathering exemplifies the values of compassion, peace, and shared humanity, reminding us of the importance of coming together, regardless of our differences, to celebrate the bonds that unite us all."

The gathering at the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara reinforced the message that peace, love, and respect for all religions and cultures are essential in today’s world. The 13th annual interfaith iftar event served as a beautiful reminder of the importance of shared humanity and unity, especially in times of division and strife.
