Dubai: Dubai Police’s Ports Police Station has carried out a field inspection campaign targeting jet ski rental companies operating at Fishing Harbour 3. 

The campaign aimed to ensure compliance with public safety requirements, transparency in rental agreements, and create a secure and regulated maritime environment.

Brigadier Dr Hassan Suhail Al Suwaidi, Director of the Ports Police Station, confirmed that the campaign is part of ongoing efforts to enhance maritime security and regulate the marine rental sector. The goal is ultimately to ensure that all safety standards are met for the well-being of customers and recreational watercraft users.

The inspection resulted in the confiscation of 32 jet skis due to severe damage, previous involvement in accidents, or being deemed unfit for use. Additionally, 39 violations were issued to various watercraft for safety breaches and non-compliance with designated operating routes.

Administrative Violations Detected

Brigadier Al Suwaidi noted that the campaign uncovered administrative violations by some companies, including a lack of electronic documentation and unclear rental procedures. Immediate warnings were issued to these businesses, with detailed observations documented and submitted to the relevant licensing and legal authorities.

Fines and Penalties

Brigadier Al Suwaidi stressed that using an unlicensed watercraft or operating in Dubai waters without authorisation incurs a fine of AED 5,000. Operating a watercraft with an expired licence without renewal results in a AED 1,000 fine. Renting out an unfit watercraft carries a fine of AED 5,000, as does obstructing or preventing inspectors from carrying out their duties.

He urged all jet ski rental offices to regularly inspect the condition of their equipment, ensure safety protocols are in place before and after rental, and strictly adhere to the terms and conditions of rental contracts.
