BCCI Forms Committee to Draft Celebration Guidelines After Bengaluru Tragedy

New Delhi: In the wake of the tragic stampede that claimed 11 lives during the victory celebrations in Bengaluru following the team's maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title win, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has formed a high-level committee to prevent such incidents in the future.

The newly constituted committee will be chaired by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and will include BCCI president Rajeev Shukla and member Prabhtej Singh Bhatia. The panel has been tasked with formulating a comprehensive set of safety guidelines for public gatherings and celebrations related to major cricketing events.

The BCCI has directed the committee to submit its recommendations within 15 days. The guidelines are expected to focus on enhancing crowd control, coordination with local authorities, and ensuring adequate safety infrastructure during large-scale celebrations.

The stampede, which occurred during a celebratory event in Bengaluru, left at least 11 people dead and several others injured, casting a shadow over what was meant to be a historic and joyful occasion. The incident has raised serious concerns about event management and crowd safety during high-profile cricket events in India.

The BCCI expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and has assured that necessary measures will be taken to ensure public safety remains a top priority in future events.
