PM Modi Receives Brazil's Highest Honour, Continues Unprecedented Global Recognition
- July 09, 2025
New Delhi/Rio de Janeiro: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred with Brazil's highest civilian honour, the Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross, during his ongoing State Visit to the South American nation. This distinction marks the 26th international award bestowed upon PM Modi, and the third recognition during his current five-nation diplomatic tour that began on July 2.
Brazil's prestigious award is traditionally reserved for heads of state and individuals who have made remarkable contributions to strengthening international relations. The honour reflects the growing strategic partnership between India and Brazil and acknowledges Modi's global leadership and efforts to elevate India's stature on the world stage.
Earlier during this visit, PM Modi made history in the Caribbean when he became the first foreign leader to receive The Order of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, the highest civilian award of the island nation. The award was presented in Port of Spain by Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. She praised Modi for his global statesmanship, deep connection with the Indian diaspora, and his humanitarian role during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to that, in Ghana, Prime Minister Modi was honoured with the Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, the West African country's national award. Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama described Modi as a distinguished global leader whose work has contributed significantly to international cooperation and regional development.
These awards are part of a broader trend that has seen Modi receive multiple top national honours from various countries, underscoring his rising global influence. In June, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides conferred on him the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, the highest civilian honour of Cyprus, during Modi’s visit to Nicosia.
Earlier in 2024, both Mauritius and Sri Lanka also conferred their highest civilian honours on the Indian Prime Minister in recognition of his leadership and India’s continued support to partner nations.
Foreign policy analysts have noted that these recognitions reflect a paradigm shift in India’s global diplomacy. “For the first time, India’s foreign policy is unapologetically ‘India First’ – clear-headed, confident, and consistent. The world is not just watching; it is acknowledging and respecting this new India,” said a former Indian diplomat.
The consistent recognition from world leaders, experts believe, highlights Modi’s position not only as a regional leader but also as a significant global statesman advocating for peace, development, humanitarian cooperation, and spiritual diplomacy.
As Prime Minister Modi continues his current tour, expectations are high that more such honours may follow, solidifying his status as one of the most decorated Indian leaders on the global stage.
