Dubai: Dubai Police, through the Positive Spirit Council in cooperation with the General Department of Transport and Rescue, the volunteer team of the “Your Neighbourhood Police” initiative, and the Ports Police Station, organised the “Shade and Reward” initiative at Deira Port.

 The programme aimed to raise workers’ awareness about the dangers of staying in high-temperature areas, while also distributing umbrellas to help them avoid heat stress when moving between locations. The initiative was attended by Colonel Yahya Hussain Muhammad, Director of the Search and Rescue Department, and Ms Fatima Buhjair, Chairwoman of the Positive Spirit Council.

Ms Buhjair confirmed that 200 workers benefited from the initiative, receiving umbrellas along with practical health and safety advice on preventing heat stress and sunstroke. Participants were reminded of the importance of drinking plenty of water and following protective measures. They were also briefed on the services and rights available to them through Dubai Police, including guidance on calling 901 for non-emergency situations and 999 strictly for emergencies.

She further explained that the initiative is part of the activities organised by Dubai Police in line with the UAE’s Year of Community, which aims to launch impactful initiatives that strengthen shared responsibility. It also reflects the goals of the Positive Spirit Council in supporting Dubai Police’s strategic objective of enhancing security, safety, and community engagement with all segments of society.
