Dubai: Dubai Police, per the directives of the Ministry of Interior, organised a specialised workshop titled “Security Liaison Officers for Sports Delegations” aimed at strengthening joint cooperation and coordinating efforts among stakeholders to ensure the safety and security of international teams and delegations.

 

The workshop, held at the Dubai Police Officers Club, was attended by Brigadier Musabbah Al Ghafli, Director of the General Department of Protective Security and Emergency, his deputy for Emergency Affairs Brigadier Hisham Nasser Al Suwaidi, Brigadier Khamis Ali Al Shamsi, Director of the Emergency Department at the General Department of Protective Security and Emergency, Brigadier Hamad Al Mazrouei, Deputy Director of the General Department of Airport Security, and Colonel Dr. Saud Al Junaibi, Deputy Chairman of the Permanent Committee for the Implementation of the Sports Facilities Security Law. Also present were police monitors in sports clubs, representatives from the UAE Football Association, the UAE Pro League, and sports clubs across the country.

 

Three Key Themes

 

Participants discussed three main themes:

1. Challenges faced by UAE sports delegations in international events.

2. Roles and responsibilities of international liaison officers in line with regulations and laws.

3. The importance of assigning liaison officers within international delegations.

 

Enhancing Proactiveness and Readiness

 

In his opening remarks, Brigadier Musabbah Al Ghafli welcomed the attendees and stressed that the workshop is designed to promote proactiveness in securing delegations participating in sports events. He highlighted the importance of establishing clear policies to define the responsibilities of international liaison officers and raising preparedness before, during, and after sporting events.

 

He underlined that the workshop focuses on topics of significant importance in safeguarding teams and delegations abroad, ensuring coordination among security entities at international gatherings, and enhancing both safety and security. Brigadier Al Ghafli expressed his hope that the workshop would serve as a platform for sharing valuable experiences and fostering fruitful cooperation among all participants.
