Dubai Police Take Action Against Driver Who Removed Plate and Ran Red Light

Dubai: Dubai Police have summoned a motorist who deliberately removed the front licence plate of his vehicle in an attempt to bypass smart traffic systems, before going on to commit dangerous violations, including running a red light and driving recklessly, endangering lives.

According to Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, advanced monitoring systems flagged a Nissan Patrol involved in repeated serious offences across multiple locations. The driver believed that removing the front plate would prevent detection, but smart technologies successfully tracked the vehicle and identified him.

Traffic patrols later located and stopped the vehicle, with authorities taking immediate legal action. The vehicle was impounded under Decree No. 30 of 2023, with a release fee of up to AED 50,000, and the driver was referred to the competent authorities for further legal proceedings.

Brigadier bin Suwaidan stressed that tampering with licence plates is a serious offence, while running a red light remains among the most dangerous violations due to the risk of high-impact collisions at intersections, often resulting in severe injuries or fatalities. He noted that combining such behaviours reflects a high level of recklessness and disregard for public safety.

He added that Dubai Police rely on technologies capable of detecting any manipulation of vehicle data or plates, supported by specialised teams dedicated to tracking offenders. Such acts, he warned, may go beyond traffic violations and could amount to endangering lives, exposing offenders to judicial accountability.

Dubai Police reaffirmed that these behaviours pose a direct threat to road users and will be met with strict action, urging motorists to follow traffic rules, respect signals, and avoid any attempts to evade enforcement systems.
