Sharjah:  Al Hamriyah Municipality marked International Workers’ Day, observed annually on 1 May, with a series of community initiatives and events, reaffirming its appreciation for the vital role workers play in the development process. The initiatives also reflect the municipality’s institutional commitment under its 2023–2026 strategy to enhance quality of life and strengthen social responsibility.

These activities highlight the municipality’s efforts to recognise workers as key partners in achievement, and to support a positive and motivating work environment that contributes to improved performance efficiency and a stronger sense of institutional belonging. This aligns with the UAE’s wider direction of empowering human resources and advancing service systems.

Sports and recreational activities at Al Hamriyah beach park

 The events, held at Al Hamriyah Beach Park, saw wide participation from municipality workers across various departments and sections. The programme included a recreational sports day featuring a beach football tournament, volleyball matches, and running races, alongside interactive competitions and the distribution of gifts and prizes, creating an atmosphere of appreciation and camaraderie.

Leadership emphasises appreciation and workforce development

 His Excellency Mubarak Rashid Al Shamsi, Director of Al Hamriyah Municipality, stated that celebrating International Workers’ Day reflects recognition of the significant contribution workers make to sustainable development, as they form a fundamental pillar of the work system and an active driver in implementing projects and services.

Al Shamsi added that the municipality is keen to use such occasions to raise awareness of workers’ rights, provide a safe and motivating work environment, and organise initiatives that embody values of appreciation and respect. This, he noted, helps improve productivity and enhances institutional performance quality.

He further pointed out that Al Hamriyah Municipality continues its efforts to develop the skills of its workforce and provide training and qualification programmes according to the highest professional standards, supporting the development of qualified human resources capable of meeting municipal work requirements and achieving excellence in service delivery.

He concluded by affirming that these initiatives are in line with the leadership’s vision of strengthening social cohesion and promoting values of giving and appreciation, contributing to a cohesive society built on mutual respect and human solidarity.
