Dubai Police Meets with Delivery Companies

Dubai: Brigadier Essam Ibrahim Al Awar, Deputy Director of the General Department of Traffic, reaffirmed Dubai Police's commitment to promoting a culture of traffic safety, which includes raising awareness of the regulations and laws that must be observed on the road, the safety requirements for riding motorcycles, and the importance of preventing traffic accidents and their severe consequences.

His remarks came during a meeting held by Dubai Police with major delivery companies, including Talabat, Deliveroo, Noon, and other logistics providers, to explore ways to strengthen collaboration and address issues of shared concern.

During the meeting, Brig. Al Awar reviewed a range of topics, including common violations committed by drivers, mandatory safety requirements for operating motorcycles, and preventive measures for all road users. He also highlighted the risks these vehicles can pose on the road, the essential safety equipment required while riding, and the dangers associated with unsafe usage. He further underscored the vital role that compliance with traffic rules and regulations plays in avoiding accidents and their serious repercussions, and outlined the main causes of delivery motorcycle accidents recorded in the previous period.

Brig. Al Awar emphasised the need to educate drivers and train them to adhere to traffic rules and to elevate their overall traffic discipline. He stressed that failure to comply with traffic laws and regulations, operating a vehicle that does not meet safety requirements, and a driver's lack of familiarity with proper road rules and etiquette all pose a significant danger, both to the drivers themselves and to other road users.

In closing, Brig. Al Awar highlighted the importance of deepening partnerships and cooperation, harnessing all available resources, and developing a set of concrete recommendations to reduce accidents involving delivery drivers. He also called for exploring the most effective ways and means to serve the public interest.

It is worth noting that Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have launched a number of traffic safety initiatives aimed at encouraging delivery motorcycle drivers to comply with internationally approved health and safety standards. These efforts include intensified training for drivers and the application of best practices in the work environment. As part of this drive, an award has been introduced to recognise companies and drivers who demonstrate exemplary commitment to safety standards. All of this is in pursuit of the objectives and targets of the traffic safety strategy, aligned with the highest international benchmarks, and with the ultimate aim of reducing behavioural and traffic violations among this group of road users.
