Dubai: Dubai Police has urged community members to exercise caution when responding to insurance offers promoted on social media platforms, warning that fraudsters are using misleading advertisements and unrealistically low prices to deceive victims and obtain their money.

The warning was issued by the Anti-Fraud Centre at the General Department of Criminal Investigation as part of the ongoing #BewareofFraud awareness campaign. The Centre highlighted that fraudulent insurance companies and offices exploit consumers’ search for lower prices and attractive deals to lure them into financial scams.

These fraudulent entities publish deceptive marketing advertisements offering insurance products at prices significantly below prevailing market rates. They often claim to provide instant vehicle or health insurance services, encouraging customers to transfer funds without verifying whether the company is legally authorised and licensed by the relevant authorities in the UAE.

The Anti-Fraud Centre stressed that licensed insurance providers in the UAE operate under the supervision and oversight of the competent regulatory authorities and follow established procedures to issue policies and safeguard customers’ rights. The public was advised to verify the licence of any insurance company or broker before making payments and to avoid being misled by suspicious promotions or offers that do not reflect normal market prices.

Dubai Police also called on members of the public to report any suspected fraud attempts immediately through the eCrime platform or by calling 901 for non-emergency cases.
