Dubai Police and RTA Discuss Ways to Prevent Traffic Accidents Involving Heavy Vehicles
- June 18, 2026
Dubai: Brigadier Essam Ibrahim Al Awar, Deputy Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, emphasised the importance of enhancing integration and coordination with strategic partners to reduce traffic accidents by studying their causes, analysing their indicators, and developing appropriate solutions – supporting efforts to improve the traffic safety system in the emirate.
He explained that heavy vehicles are an important element in supporting economic and developmental activity, which requires all relevant parties to adhere to the highest safety standards by complying with traffic regulations, conducting regular vehicle inspections, ensuring driver readiness, and raising awareness of potential risks while driving.
This came during a coordination meeting he held with Mr. Mohammed Al Authon, Director of the Traffic Safety Section at the Traffic and Roads Institution of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), and Mr. Abdullah Al Muhairi, Director of the Control Section at the RTA, in the presence of directors of sub‑departments at the General Department of Traffic and concerned officials from the authority. The meeting discussed traffic accidents in which heavy vehicles were a contributing factor, reviewed key data and statistics, and analysed the causes, circumstances, and influencing factors.
Brig. Al Awar pointed out that studying this type of accident and analysing its indicators represent an essential step towards identifying their causes and developing appropriate preventive measures. He stressed that the exchange of expertise and information between relevant entities contributes to developing practical solutions and taking measures to prevent their recurrence, thereby enhancing traffic safety levels on the emirate's roads.
The meeting also discussed a number of proposals and recommendations related to developing monitoring and tracking mechanisms, and leveraging traffic studies and analyses to identify high‑risk locations and accident patterns involving heavy vehicles. This supports data‑driven decision‑making, enhances the effectiveness of preventive interventions, and contributes to achieving the shared goals of Dubai Police and the RTA to provide a safer road environment for all.
