Dubai: Two Indian expatriates based in the UAE have each won $1 million (Dh3.67 million) in the latest Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire draw.

Bhanu Sobhani, a 40-year-old Indian national and Dubai resident, won the top prize in Millennium Millionaire Series 557 with ticket number 0489. He purchased the ticket at Concourse B on September 2 while travelling to Poland for a business trip.

Sobhani, who has lived in Dubai for 10 years, has been regularly participating in the Dubai Duty Free promotion since 2021. He runs a textile and garment factory in Bur Dubai and is a father of two.

Speaking about his plans for the prize money, Sobhani said he intends to invest in property and donate part of the winnings to charity.

The second $1 million winner was Daravanan Malairaj, a 36-year-old Indian national residing in Abu Dhabi. He won in Millennium Millionaire Series 558 with ticket number 4905, purchased online on September 1.

Malairaj has lived in Abu Dhabi since 2009 and has participated in the Dubai Duty Free promotion for the past six months. He works as a storekeeper for a construction company and is also a father of two.

“My dream is to own a mall in Tamil Nadu, so with this win, Dubai Duty Free has finally helped make that dream a reality,” Malairaj said.

Sobhani and Malairaj are the 283rd and 284th Indian nationals to win $1 million through the Millennium Millionaire promotion since it began in 1999. Indian nationals remain the largest group of ticket purchasers in the promotion.

Indian Expats Also Win Luxury Prizes

The Finest Surprise draw also produced two Indian winners.

Shailesh Kumar, a 47-year-old Dubai resident, won a Range Rover SE P360 in the Finest Surprise Series 1964 with ticket number 1346. He purchased the ticket online on September 17.

Kumar, who has lived in Dubai since 2012, works as an insurance manager and has been participating in the Dubai Duty Free promotion for eight years.

“This is my dream car, and I’ve been waiting for this for a long time,” Kumar said, adding that it was his first-ever prize win.

Meanwhile, Sajjad Siddiqui, an Indian national based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, won a BMW R 12 GS motorcycle in Finest Surprise Series 679 with ticket number 0749. He purchased the ticket online on September 17.

Siddiqui has not yet been contacted regarding his win.
