Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Resigns Citing Health Reasons

New Delhi: In a surprising and significant development, Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar tendered his resignation on Monday evening, citing health concerns and the need to adhere to medical advice.

In his resignation letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, Dhankhar wrote:

“To prioritize my health and comply with medical advice, I hereby resign from the office of the Vice President of India, with immediate effect, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.”

As the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Dhankhar expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President Murmu for her “unwavering support” and the “wonderful and harmonious working relationship” they shared. He also extended his thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers, noting:

“The Prime Minister’s cooperation and support have been invaluable to me. I have learned immensely during my tenure.”

Dhankhar warmly acknowledged the trust and affection he received from Members of Parliament, calling those memories “deeply cherished and unforgettable.”

Reflecting on his time in office, Dhankhar remarked:

“It has been both a privilege and a source of immense satisfaction to witness and contribute to India’s remarkable economic progress and unprecedented development during this important phase in our nation’s journey.”

As he steps down from the second-highest constitutional position in the country, Dhankhar said he leaves office “filled with pride in Bharat’s global ascent and phenomenal achievements” and holds “unwavering confidence in the nation’s brilliant future.”
