One Dead, 19 Injured as Dubai Police Warns of Dangers of Stopping on Roads
- May 14, 2026
Dubai: Dubai Police has warned motorists about the dangers of stopping on roads after a collision between a bus and a truck claimed one life and injured 19 others.
The force highlighted the risks associated with vehicles breaking down in the middle of the road due to technical faults, fuel shortages, or tyre damage, stressing the importance of checking vehicle safety before driving. Dubai Police noted that stopping in the middle of the road carries a fine of AED 1,000 and six black points, while obstructing traffic under Article 98 results in a fine of AED 500.
Brigadier Jumaa Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, said the violation is among the leading causes of serious road accidents, often resulting in fatalities and severe injuries. He urged motorists to immediately contact the police if their vehicles break down and cannot be moved safely off the road.
The warning follows a crash involving a workers’ bus and a truck on Al Yalayis Street, near the Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Bridge heading towards Emirates Road. Initial findings indicate the bus stopped suddenly in the middle of the road because of a technical malfunction, before being struck from behind by a truck whose driver reportedly failed to pay attention and maintain a safe distance.
The collision left one person dead and 19 others injured, including eight critically, two moderately, and nine with minor injuries. All injured individuals were transported to hospital for treatment.
Brigadier Bin Suwaidan confirmed that traffic patrols and accident investigation teams responded swiftly to secure the site, manage traffic flow, facilitate rescue operations, and redirect vehicles through alternative routes to reduce congestion.
He also advised drivers involved in breakdowns or accidents to switch on hazard lights, prioritise passenger safety, place a warning triangle behind the vehicle whenever possible, move away from the roadway, and contact the police immediately.
