DHA Champions Organ Donation Awareness with AUE Students

Dubai: The Dubai Health Authority’s (DHA) Health Regulation Sector, in collaboration with final-year students from the American University in the Emirates (AUE), organised a workshop as part of a broader initiative to raise awareness about organ donation and transplantation. The campaign, titled “Gift of Life” , aims to educate the public, dispel misconceptions, and encourage organ donor registration.

This is part of DHA’s commitment to enhancing public health and encouraging proactive participation in life-saving medical and humanitarian initiatives.

The initiative was also lauded by AUE leadership, who expressed pride in the students’ dedication. “This project is a testament to our students’ commitment to addressing real-world issues and driving positive change,” said Dr Samia Hashim, Project Supervisor at AUE. “The partnership with DHA has been instrumental in elevating the campaign’s impact and reinforcing its message.”

“Organ donation is a transformative act that has the power to save lives and bring hope to families,” said Dr Hanan Obaid, Director of the Health Policies and Standards Department at DHA’s Health Regulation Sector. “Through collaborations like this, we aim to build awareness, address common misconceptions, and inspire our community to understand the life-changing impact of organ donation.”

Ayesha Al Falahi, Senior Consultant for Organ Donation and Transplantation at DHA, emphasised the importance of community education. “One organ donor can save up to eight lives. By engaging directly with students and the wider public, this campaign bridges the knowledge gap and encourages individuals to register as donors.”

As part of the initiative, DHA facilitated key activities, including:

Hayat Awareness Workshop: Organised by DHA, this workshop engaged students, faculty, and the public, with medical professionals and advocates sharing valuable insights about organ donation.

Storytelling Campaign: Personal experiences, such as a kidney donor’s journey to save her mother, were shared.
Registration Drives: Attendees were given the opportunity to pledge as organ donors, with assistance from the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and The National Center for Organ Donation & Transplant.
Informational Materials: Materials featuring the Hayat initiative were distributed to further raise awareness.

Al Falahi said: “The Dubai Health Authority remains steadfast in its mission to enhance public health through impactful collaborations and community-driven initiatives. Together, we can inspire hope, save lives, and create a healthier and more compassionate society.”
