Dubai Police and NHRI Explore Ways to Strengthen Cooperation

Dubai: A delegation from the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI), led by His Excellency Maqsoud Kruse, Chairperson of the Institution, and His Excellency Dr Saeed Al Ghafli, Secretary General, visited Dubai Police. 

The delegation was received by His Excellency Major General Dr Ahmad Zaal bin Krishan Al Muhairi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief for Finance and Administration, His Excellency Major General Hareb Muhammad Al Shamsi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Affairs, and His Excellency Major General Dr Abdul Quddoos Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidli, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Excellence and Pioneering Affairs, along with senior officers and members of the Authority.

The visit formed part of a series of strategic meetings aimed at strengthening institutional partnerships with relevant authorities and enhancing mechanisms for joint efforts to sustain human rights protections in the UAE, in line with international obligations and global standards.

His Excellency Maqsoud Kruse noted that the visit falls within NHRI’s mandate to build effective partnerships with law enforcement agencies, particularly Dubai Police, reaffirming the Institute’s commitment to supporting the UAE’s ongoing efforts to promote a culture of human rights and uphold the values of dignity, justice, and equality. He emphasised the importance of institutional collaboration in protecting rights and freedoms and praised Dubai Police as a model of adherence to international human rights standards. He expressed optimism about implementing a joint action plan that transforms shared visions into tangible initiatives.

His Excellency Major General Dr Abdul Quddoos Al Obaidli commended NHRI’s vital role in promoting human rights both institutionally and socially. He added that, under the directives of His Excellency Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, the force places a high priority on upholding international human rights standards. He welcomed constructive cooperation with NHRI, acknowledging its crucial role in enhancing the human rights ecosystem in the UAE. He reaffirmed Dubai Police’s full commitment to supporting initiatives that foster a safe, fair, and inclusive environment for all members of society.

The delegation was also briefed on the efforts of the General Department of Human Rights in safeguarding the rights of various community groups and the work of the General Department of Correctional and Punitive Institutions in protecting the rights of inmates. 

The visit included discussions on future cooperation mechanisms and comprehensive action plans covering areas such as human rights awareness, specialised training programmes, and joint field visits to security and service facilities.
