Dubai Police Urge Motorists to Drive with Extra Caution During Unstable Weather

Dubai: Dubai Police have called on all motorists to exercise the highest levels of caution and commit to safe driving practices during periods of unstable weather and rainfall, due to the challenges such conditions pose to road safety and traffic flow.

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, stressed that reduced visibility, vehicle skidding, and water accumulation on roads require drivers to strictly follow speed limits, maintain safe distances, and drive calmly and attentively. He underlined the importance of avoiding risky behaviours that may increase the likelihood of accidents, including the use of mobile phones or filming while driving.

Brigadier bin Suwaidan reaffirmed that Dubai Police will take firm action against dangerous driving, reckless behaviour, and vehicle stunts, as they pose a direct threat to the lives of drivers and other road users. He confirmed that traffic laws will be enforced against anyone who endangers public safety, including vehicle impoundment and the necessary legal measures.

He also urged drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before setting off, particularly tyres, brakes, wipers, and lighting systems. Hazard lights should only be used when stopping due to an emergency, and broken-down vehicles should be moved off the road to avoid obstructing traffic or causing further incidents.

Drivers were further advised to remain especially cautious on external roads, bends, and low-lying areas where water may collect. He highlighted the importance of defensive driving and anticipating sudden hazards, such as unexpected stops or vehicles entering from side openings.

Brigadier bin Suwaidan strongly warned against approaching valleys, flood-prone areas, water channels, or dams during rainfall, as well as gathering for filming purposes, due to the serious risks involved. He noted that traffic regulations provide for fines, black points, and vehicle impoundment for violators. He concluded that following official instructions and guidance helps protect lives and property, and reflects the community’s awareness and sense of responsibility during emergency weather conditions.
