Dubai: Dubai Police have organised a specialised traffic awareness lecture as part of their “Year Without Accidents” campaign, reaching more than 80 Dubai Taxi drivers in a focused effort to enhance road safety across the emirate.

Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, emphasised that raising awareness among drivers remains a top priority, particularly for taxi drivers who spend extended hours on the road and play a vital role in Dubai’s transport system. He noted that strict adherence to traffic laws directly contributes to reducing accidents and improving safety for all road users.

The lecture, delivered by the Traffic Awareness Department at Dubai Taxi headquarters, covered a wide range of essential safety topics. Participants were guided on the importance of following speed limits, maintaining a safe distance between vehicles, and avoiding distractions such as mobile phone use while driving.

Additional focus areas included pedestrian awareness at crossings, lane discipline, safe navigation of intersections and traffic signals, and the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, particularly tyres and brakes. These measures, organisers stressed, are critical in preventing accidents and safeguarding both drivers and the public.

The session also highlighted the dangers of reckless driving, sudden stops, and unsafe lane changes, reinforcing the need for responsible driving behaviour, especially during peak hours and in high-traffic zones.

During the lecture, attendees were introduced to Dubai Police’s Traffic Safety Platform and encouraged to access its educational resources via a QR code, designed to promote positive driving habits and strengthen traffic culture across the community.

Brigadier bin Suwaidan reaffirmed that Dubai Police will continue delivering awareness programmes in collaboration with relevant partners, aiming to elevate road safety standards and support the vision of safer roads throughout Dubai.
