Dubai Police Organise Training Courses for Inmates to Enhance Skills and Reintegration

Dubai: Dubai Police have organised a series of specialised training courses for male and female inmates as part of their annual programme plan for the second quarter of the year, reinforcing ongoing efforts to support rehabilitation and skill development.

The initiative was delivered by the Inmate Education and Training Department at the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions, within a structured framework designed to strengthen inmates’ academic, vocational, and personal capabilities.

Brigadier Salah Buassiba, Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions, affirmed that correctional institutions have become centres of learning and development, offering purposeful programmes that help inmates build knowledge and practical skills to support their reintegration into society.

He explained that the Inmate Education and Training Department operates through four core divisions: educational programmes, religious programmes, sports programmes, and vocational training. Each contributes to a comprehensive rehabilitation approach.

The educational programmes division assists inmates wishing to continue their studies at various levels, providing suitable learning environments, study materials, and support in overcoming illiteracy, including digital literacy. It also focuses on developing talents and encouraging the productive use of time during incarceration.

The religious programmes division promotes awareness of Islamic values through lectures, seminars, and Quran memorisation sessions, aiming to strengthen moral awareness and develop communication skills.

The sports programmes division organises a range of recreational and competitive activities that support physical well-being and positive engagement.

Meanwhile, the vocational training division delivers practical courses to equip inmates with professional skills, enhance employability, and prepare them for future opportunities. These programmes also encourage self-reliance and entrepreneurship following release.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Abdullah Al Obaidli, Director of the Inmate Education and Training Department, noted that several courses have been implemented during the current training cycle. These include a smart agriculture course with 35 inmates, a free drawing course with 10 participants, a fabric painting course for 8 female inmates, and a basic flower cultivation course attended by 21 female inmates.

The initiative reflects Dubai Police’s continued commitment to transforming correctional facilities into environments that promote growth, learning, and opportunity, contributing to safer communities through effective rehabilitation.
