Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday participated in the 45th anniversary celebrations of the The Art of Living in Bengaluru, where he inaugurated a grand meditation temple and highlighted the role of spirituality, service, and socially responsible youth in building a developed India.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister described Bengaluru as a city that has not only earned global recognition for software and services but has also elevated India’s cultural identity and spiritual consciousness. He said the atmosphere of the city was “quite unique” and reflected India’s spiritual depth.
Referring to the journey of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and the organisation, PM Modi said the seed planted 45 years ago had now grown into a vast banyan tree touching the lives of millions across the world. He praised the organisation’s service-driven initiatives and said “Seva Paramo Dharma” (service is the supreme duty) remains the natural character of Indian society.
The Prime Minister stressed that no mission can succeed without active public participation and cited the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as an example of how a government initiative transformed into a people’s movement. He said the strength of society was greater than political systems and governments, and true nation-building was only possible when communities became active stakeholders.
Highlighting the importance of youth in shaping the future, PM Modi said the dream of a “Viksit Bharat” could only be realised through mentally calm, socially responsible, and sensitive young citizens. He noted that institutions promoting spirituality, yoga, meditation, and mental wellness play a crucial role in nurturing such values.
The Prime Minister also lauded India’s progress in sectors such as digital payments, startups, infrastructure, and space technology, crediting the country’s youth for leading transformational change. He appreciated the role of Art of Living in helping young people cope with modern-day challenges and strengthening their emotional and spiritual well-being.
Calling for collective efforts toward sustainable development, PM Modi urged organisations like Art of Living to promote natural farming, environmental conservation, water management, and reduction of single-use plastics. Referring to initiatives such as “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” and “Per Drop, More Crop,” he linked environmental responsibility with the philosophy of the Art of Living.
Further, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that the newly inaugurated meditation temple would become a centre of peace and healing for thousands and hoped the organisation would continue contributing to key social and national causes in the years ahead.
