Sharjah Police concludes participation in Gulf Traffic Week 2026

Sharjah: The Sharjah Police General Command has concluded its participation in Gulf Traffic Week 2026, held under the slogan “I cross safely,” as part of ongoing efforts to raise traffic awareness and promote safe behaviours among pedestrians and drivers, contributing to improved road safety and reduced accidents.

Unified GCC efforts for traffic safety
Colonel Omar Bu Ghanem, Deputy Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, said the participation reflects the importance of unifying awareness efforts among GCC countries in traffic safety through a shared slogan and coordinated messages that enhance community impact.

He added that cooperation between police and traffic authorities helps strengthen compliance with traffic rules, emphasising that road safety is a shared responsibility beyond borders.

Use of artificial intelligence in awareness campaigns
Colonel Bu Ghanem highlighted the importance of using artificial intelligence technologies to support traffic awareness campaigns, including analysing driving behaviour, measuring public engagement, and identifying high-need areas for targeted awareness efforts.

He noted that such tools help improve the accuracy of awareness content and support more data-driven future planning.

Public engagement and field activities
Captain Hamid Abdullah Al Rais, Director of the Traffic Awareness Branch, said the week’s activities focused on direct public interaction through field platforms, educational questions, and awareness messages on pedestrian safety and proper road crossing practices.

The initiatives included screens displaying traffic content, distribution of brochures and gifts, interactive public quizzes, and guidance on using pedestrian crossings, obeying signals, and avoiding distractions such as mobile phones and headphones while crossing roads.

Digital campaigns and community responsibility
He added that social media and digital platforms played a key role in supporting field efforts by reaching wider audiences and reinforcing safe driving messages across different age groups.

Sharjah Police reaffirmed that traffic safety depends not only on enforcement but on an integrated approach combining awareness, technology, and community participation to support safer roads and more effective future campaigns.
