Dubai/Abu Dhabi: The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai have announced plans for two major events across the UAE to commemorate the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 21, 2026.

The celebrations will be held at two iconic venues — Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Dubai Police Officers' Club — under the global theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing."

In Dubai, the Consulate General of India, in collaboration with the Dubai Police Positive Spirit Council, will organize a large-scale community yoga session at the Dubai Police Officers' Club from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. The event is expected to bring together members of the Indian community, Dubai Police personnel, diplomats, students, and yoga enthusiasts.

According to the Consulate, participants will take part in guided yoga sessions led by experienced instructors, including yoga postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), and meditation practices aimed at promoting physical and mental well-being.

Meanwhile, in Abu Dhabi, the Indian Embassy will host a special yoga event beneath the iconic dome of Louvre Abu Dhabi from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Residents interested in participating can register online through the Louvre Abu Dhabi website.

The theme for International Day of Yoga 2026, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," highlights the growing global recognition of yoga as a holistic approach to enhancing physical, mental, and emotional health. Organizers noted that yoga plays a significant role in promoting vitality, resilience, independence, and preventive healthcare for people of all ages.

The Indian missions said the celebrations also reflect the deepening cultural ties and friendship between India and the UAE. The partnership with Dubai Police, in particular, underscores a shared commitment to promoting wellness, discipline, and community well-being.

Since the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014, the annual event has evolved into one of the world's largest participatory wellness movements, bringing together millions of people globally in a celebration of health, harmony, and peace.
