Dubai: Travellers departing from Dubai can now obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) in as little as five minutes at Dubai International Airport, following the launch of a new instant service by the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA Dubai) in partnership with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the Emirates Automobile and Touring Club and Amer.

The new service is available at the Customer Happiness Centre in Terminal 3 and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is open to UAE citizens and residents who hold a valid UAE driving licence, allowing them to complete the process shortly before travelling.

Applicants are required to provide their Emirates ID, valid UAE driving licence, passport copy and a personal photograph. Integrated digital systems connecting the participating entities enable applications to be verified and approved instantly, with the permit issued within a maximum of five minutes.

Major General Khalaf Ahmed Al Ghaith, Assistant Director-General for Entry Permits and Residency at GDRFA Dubai, said the initiative reflects Dubai’s commitment to delivering smart and proactive government services that make the customer journey easier.

He said the launch at Dubai International Airport demonstrates effective cooperation among government and strategic partners and provides travellers with flexible solutions at the right place and time.

Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of the Licensing Agency at RTA, said the service highlights the successful collaboration between strategic partners and enhances the customer experience by providing an instant service at one of Dubai’s busiest locations.

The initiative forms part of Dubai’s wider efforts to develop seamless, customer-focused government services and strengthen its position as a global leader in digital government and service efficiency. It also supports the UAE’s broader digital transformation goals by turning smart government solutions into practical services that make travel more convenient.
