Dubai Police Boosts Community Emergency Response Through Specialised Rescue Training

Dubai: Dubai Police has completed two specialised rescue training courses for 28 male and female volunteers, equipping them with practical skills to respond safely to flash floods, powerful water currents and other water related emergencies.

Organised by the General Department of Transport and Rescue, the courses brought together volunteers from Sanid, the national emergency response volunteer programme affiliated with Emirates Foundation.

The training forms part of Dubai Police’s efforts to strengthen emergency preparedness and ensure qualified volunteers can effectively support professional rescue teams during crises and natural disasters.

Preparing for Dangerous Water Conditions

The two courses, titled ‘Swift Water’ and ‘Floods’, focused on the risks associated with flash floods, overflowing wadis, strong currents and flooding.

Participants received practical and field training in safe intervention techniques, evacuation procedures, search and rescue operations, emergency management and providing initial assistance until specialised rescue teams arrive.

The programme also helped volunteers understand the dangers of fast moving water and how to respond responsibly without putting themselves or others at unnecessary risk.

Specialised Training for Men and Women

The ‘Swift Water’ course was designed for male volunteers, focusing on rescue techniques in strong currents, rapid intervention and safe responses to flash floods and flowing wadis.

The ‘Floods’ course was tailored for female volunteers, preparing them to support evacuation operations, assist with search and rescue efforts, and provide help to families in flood affected areas.

Both courses aimed to develop practical skills that volunteers can use alongside professional emergency responders.

Strengthening Community Emergency Readiness

Dubai Police emphasised that trained volunteers play an important supporting role during emergencies, particularly when flooding or severe weather conditions require coordinated action.
