Dubai:Dubai Police K9 unit has actively carried out 840 security and inspection tasks during the first half of 2020.

According to Major Salah Khalifa Al Mazrooei, Director of K9 Unit at Dubai Police, the tasks included searching for concealed illicit drugs, spotting evidence in crime scenes, guarding properties, tracking and searching for bodies, in addition to functions that help police uncover crimes. "Dubai Police K9 dogs have been aiding the forces efforts in ensuring high standards of security and safety, as they are required to fight and control crime as well as working side by side with other security departments," he said.

Al Mazrooei stated that Dubai Police K9 unit has been a big part of the detection of drugs and has been responsible for many busts and securing locations thus it has been playing a major role in Dubai's Security. He pointed out that the Unit has been awarded many certificates of appreciation from different government organizations, schools, and universities.

Dubai Police K9 Unit was established in 1976 and started off with six dogs and six trainers, and now the Unit has 60 dogs of different breeds and dozens of trainers. The Unit offers many information services for the public on the differences between dogs' breeds, the requirements and characteristic raising dogs, dogs nutrition and hygiene, all types of training, veterinary services and shots.
