DHA recently organised a specialised training course on Health Emergency and Incident Management Systems

Dubai: Dubai Health Authority, in collaboration with its strategic partners, recently organised a specialised training course on Health Emergency and Incident Management Systems. The course, part of Dubai's Disaster Medicine Program, aimed to provide the latest professionally accredited training courses by the European Centre for Disaster Medicine, introducing the principles and basics of incident and health emergency management. This initiative aims to standardise medical response for healthcare professionals and first responders in handling chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear materials. The event gathered over 100 trainees representing various relevant institutions.

The course saw distinguished participation from Dubai Police, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Civil Defence, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, and the key participants from private hospitals, including American Hospital, Mediclinic, Aster, NMC, and HMS Hospitals.

Dr. Khaled Abdullah Lootah, Public Health Consultant at the Dubai Health Authority highlighted that the training course holds international accreditations. It focuses on enhancing effective response by introducing incident management systems. The training explained the basics and principles of the health emergency management system, preparing individuals to coordinate with response partners across government and private sectors.

Dr. Lootah mentioned that the training course was part of Dubai's Disaster Medicine Program, launched earlier in February in partnership with the National Training (Jaheziya)  program for medical readiness and response. This strategic partnership aims to elevate the healthcare sector and medical services to effectively respond during emergencies.

Dr. Lootah pointed out that Dubai's Disaster Medicine Program has received significant interest from institutions and relevant entities. It has successfully attracted nearly 800 trainees since its launch, all of whom have been trained in 10 key areas. These include fundamentals of handling chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and other materials, incident management system in hospitals, disaster management and preparedness for emergencies, advanced methods for dealing with hazardous materials, basics of disaster rescue, classification of injuries in mass casualties, and critical care patient transport.
