Dubai Police Summons Young Reckless Motorists for Over Speeding at 300 km/h
- February 21, 2025
Dubai: Dubai Police summoned a motorcycle rider who performed dangerous stunts at speeds exceeding 300 km/h on two different bikes. This reckless disregard for traffic laws, which prohibit reckless driving and excessive speed, significantly contributes to many fatal accidents.
Major General Saif Mahir Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, stated that, in cooperation with the General Department of Criminal Investigation, they identified two videos circulating on social media that showed a young man riding two different motorcycles in various locations across the emirate. "In the first clip, he was seen speeding dangerously above 300 km/h, while in the second, he was weaving between vehicles and riding on one wheel, endangering both his life and the lives of others on the road," he noted.
Al Mazrouei emphasized Dubai Police's commitment to utilizing the latest smart technologies and the expertise of their officers to identify such violations. He noted that the rider attempted to conceal his identity to evade legal consequences. However, thanks to the diligent efforts of Dubai Police, he was apprehended and faced strict penalties.
Al Mazrouei confirmed that the rider has been referred to the relevant authorities for legal action, and the motorcycle has been impounded. "Additionally, he has been fined under Decree No. 30 of 2023 regarding vehicle impoundment, which sets the release fee for an impounded vehicle at AED 50,000," he continued.
The Director of the General Department of Traffic warned that reckless driving and motorcycle stunts pose serious threats to public safety. He indicated that statistics show that this behavior endangers both riders and pedestrians, noting that at least 80% of violators have been involved in severe traffic accidents, resulting in many fatalities and serious injuries. Al Mazrouei emphasized that the law imposes harsh penalties on those who operate motorcycles in a way that could damage the road or endanger others' safety.
Al Mazrouei assured the public that the police would not tolerate such violations, prioritising the safety of all road users. He urged the community to report dangerous behaviours via the "Police Eye" feature on the Dubai Police app or by calling the "We Are All Police" hotline at 901.
