Dubai: As part of its continued efforts to promote responsible behaviour and a culture of safety in sports environments, Dubai Police organised an awareness event for private school students in Dubai to familiarise them with the legal obligations of spectators at sporting events.

The event, held at Dubai National School – Al Barsha branch, was organised under the “Your Commitment is Happiness” initiative, in collaboration with the Positive Spirit Council. 

The initiative is designed to educate the public on the expected conduct of sports fans, as outlined in Federal Law No. 8 of 2014 on the Security of Sports Facilities and Events.

The session was attended by Mr. Abdul Rahman Marwan Al Ghurair, Vice Chairman of Dubai National Schools; Mr. Osama Ajoul, General Director; Ms. Suad Abu Harb, Principal of the Al Barsha branch; Ms. Fatima Bohjair, Chairperson of the Positive Spirit Council; First Lieutenant Nabit Sultan Al Ketbi, Head of the initiative; and Mr. Ali Omar, representative of the Dubai Sports Council.

Shaping Positive Fan Culture

First Lieutenant Nabit Al Ketbi highlighted that the initiative seeks to promote positive spectator behaviour in sports arenas and foster a civilised and safe atmosphere in line with the UAE’s image and values. “Our aim is to create a unified understanding of supportive fan culture and ensure spectators know their responsibilities under the law,” he said.

He explained that the federal legislation ensures the safety of athletes, spectators, and facilities by laying out clear security protocols that reflect international standards for managing major sporting events.

Engaging the Youth

Targeting school students, the event aimed to plant the seeds of sportsmanship and legal awareness among the younger generation. Through interactive sessions and school partnerships, Dubai Police seeks to nurture responsible sports fans who contribute to the safety and enjoyment of sporting occasions.
