Abu Dhabi: The BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi, renowned globally as a symbol of peace, unity, and interfaith harmony, hosted an extraordinary evening dedicated to honoring People of Determination. The event, titled ‘A Symphony of Harmony’, drew more than 500 guests, including UAE leaders, People of Determination from across the nation, Emirati families, community representatives, and well-wishers.

Set beside the tranquil Ganga waters within the Mandir amphitheater, the evening unfolded under the starlit sky with a captivating performance by 15-year-old Emirati pianist and composer Ahmed Al Hashemi, an exceptionally talented artist on the autism spectrum. Ahmed, who has represented the UAE in over 200 performances across nine countries, has earned global accolades, including the UNESCO Rising Talent Honorary Certificate in Paris and the Mother Teresa Memorial Award for social impact through music.

Ahmed performed eight musical pieces—ranging from classical compositions by Beethoven to his own original works—touching the hearts of all present. Speaking about his inspiration, he shared how a previous visit to the Mandir filled him with peace and a desire to perform there:
“Tonight is special because, although I have performed in many countries, this is my big solo at home. To play in a place where I feel at peace is truly a dream come true.”

Spiritual Reflections on Music and Harmony

During an interlude, Swami Brahmaviharidas, head of the BAPS Hindu Mandir Abu Dhabi and the visionary behind the event, offered profound reflections on the spiritual power of music. He shared an episode from the time of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, illustrating how melody can transform not only the environment but also one’s inner world.
Swami emphasized that creation itself began with the sacred sound Om, symbolizing harmony and inner resonance.
“With courage, compassion, and determination, let us overcome all our inner limitations to create a world of harmony,” he told the audience, praising Ahmed’s remarkable journey and the unwavering support of his family.

He also extended heartfelt gratitude to the UAE leadership for their continued support of the Mandir and their efforts to empower People of Determination nationwide.

Highlight Performance: ‘Dark to Light’

The evening’s highlight was Ahmed’s original composition, “Dark to Light,” created as a tribute to the Mandir. The piece portrayed a powerful transition from struggle to peace, symbolizing humanity’s collective journey toward compassion, understanding, and unity.

After the performance, Ahmed addressed the audience with a message of peace and gratitude:
“If even one note tonight made you feel calm or connected, that is the greatest reward for me. Music brings hearts together beyond language or culture.”
With the UAE observing Tolerance Day the following day, he extended heartfelt wishes to all.

Honors and Recognitions

To acknowledge Ahmed’s accomplishments and artistic brilliance, Swami Brahmaviharidas presented him with a special memento—a detailed model of the Mandir placed amid musical notes, representing the harmony between spirituality and art.
Additionally, BAPS volunteer Ms. Shaily Desai presented a bouquet to Ahmed’s mother, Eiman Alaleeli, recognizing her dedication and support.
