Ahmed bin Saeed Unveils Aircraft Safety System
- November 20, 2025
Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, launched an innovative system that protects aircraft from the risks of colliding with wires and aerial obstacles, during the Dubai Airshow, in the presence of His Excellency Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, His Excellency Mohammed Abdulla Lengawi, Director General of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, His Excellency Major General Hareb Mohammed Al Shamsi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Affairs Sector, and a number of senior officers and officials.
The General Headquarters of Dubai Police and the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority revealed the development of a new navigation system aimed at enhancing low-altitude flight safety, through integrating geographic-positioning technology with accurate digital maps that are updated periodically and include detailed data of power lines, towers, antennas, and potential aerial obstacles along the flight path.
Dubai Police explained that the system operates through a smart application that can be used on mobile devices or smart watches, where it determines the aircraft’s location in real-time and issues audio and vibration alerts when approaching any obstacle, allowing the pilot to make immediate decisions that reduce the likelihood of accidents.
They indicated that the innovation is a system compatible with all types of light aircraft and helicopters and relies on the geographic data of the area, which contributes to identifying obstacles with high effectiveness, thereby helping reduce collisions with aerial obstacles.
Dubai Police pointed out that the implementation of the project came in cooperation with the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, which developed the system by providing highly accurate geographic data, enhancing the system’s effectiveness in supporting flight safety within an advanced operational environment, and contributing to the development of innovative solutions that serve the national aviation sector.
They confirmed that the system represents a qualitative leap in the field of low-altitude flight safety, by providing an intelligent solution for early detection of aerial hazards without the need to install any additional equipment, noting that the project reflects Dubai Police’s commitment to protecting lives and property and adopting leading technologies that strengthen Dubai’s position as a global hub for technology and aviation.
For its part, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that its participation in the project comes within its pivotal role in enhancing the security and safety of Dubai’s airspace, by working with strategic partners, noting that the cooperation with Dubai Police to develop a system that contains updated databases and accurate aviation maps will contribute to raising awareness of aerial risks and enhancing the safety of low-altitude flight operations.
The DCAA also praised the joint coordination with Dubai Police, which represents a distinguished model of government partnership in developing innovative solutions that support the civil aviation ecosystem.
