Dubai Police Advance Airport Security with New ‘National Inspector’ Role
- May 10, 2026
Dubai: Dubai Police have taken a forward step in strengthening aviation security by introducing the “National Inspector” role within the General Department of Airport Security, reinforcing oversight standards at one of the world’s busiest travel hubs.
The newly introduced role focuses on enhancing inspection quality, ensuring strict compliance with security regulations, and building a new generation of highly specialised Emirati professionals equipped to meet global aviation security demands.
At its core, the initiative creates a clear and structured career pathway, enabling professionals to progress from technical and supervisory roles to the advanced level of National Inspector. This progression is based on hands-on experience, specialised training, and the ability to assess risks, evaluate performance, and ensure compliance using internationally recognised standards.
Raising the Bar for Airport Security
Expert Brigadier Hamed Al Hashemi, Director of the General Department of Airport Security, highlighted that the new role enhances the overall security ecosystem by going beyond routine inspections.
He explained that National Inspectors play a vital role in strengthening operational readiness, ensuring the precise application of regulations, and supporting continuous improvement through professional evaluation and risk-based analysis.
He added that the role aligns with the global framework of the International Civil Aviation Organization, particularly its specialised National Inspectors Programme in Aviation Security, which combines theoretical knowledge with practical inspection and auditing skills.
According to ICAO standards, effective aviation security depends on a comprehensive system that includes a national authority, structured training programmes, and continuous monitoring mechanisms, all supported by qualified and well-trained personnel.
Developing National Talent
Brigadier Rashid Nasser, Director of the General Department of Human Resources, noted that the introduction of the role reflects a long-term investment in people.
He emphasised that the National Inspector designation is achieved through a fully integrated development journey that includes specialised training programmes, continuous on-the-job learning, and measurable performance standards.
In collaboration with the Dubai Civil Aviation Security Centre, Dubai Police have introduced accredited workshops and training programmes aligned with ICAO, covering national quality control, training systems, and inspection practices.
This approach ensures that professionals are equipped with the knowledge, analytical skills, and field experience required to perform at the highest level.
Driving Excellence and Consistency
National Inspectors are responsible for planning and conducting inspections, reviewing operational procedures, verifying compliance, and producing detailed reports that support decision-making and continuous improvement.
The introduction of this role enhances consistency in oversight practices, improves the quality and reliability of inspection outcomes, and establishes a clear framework for responsibilities across the organisation.
It also provides a transparent and structured pathway for Emirati talent to grow professionally, contributing to the long-term sustainability and excellence of aviation security in Dubai.
