Dubai: The UAE Journalists Association has organised the ‘Nafais Al-Midad’ exhibition by Emirati artist and calligrapher Ali Abdullah Al Hammadi, showcasing rare manuscripts, historic Qur’anic copies and traditional Arabic calligraphy collections.

The cultural exhibition was held at the association’s headquarters in Dubai and was attended by a group of journalists, intellectuals, heritage enthusiasts and those interested in Arabic calligraphy.

The exhibition serves as a bridge between the cultural and media sectors, highlighting the close relationship between the two while reflecting the association’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen national identity and promote awareness of the value of cultural heritage.

Journey through the history of Arabic writing

The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the history of Arabic writing and calligraphy, featuring a collection of rare manuscripts and Qur’anic copies that demonstrate the precision of ancient scribes and the artistic beauty of Arabic script.

It also features traditional pens, historic inkpots and heritage artefacts that document the evolution of calligraphy tools through the centuries. The exhibits highlight the artistic and aesthetic dimensions of Arabic writing and its development over time.

The exhibition attracted considerable interest from visitors, who explored the collections and received explanations about their historical and artistic significance. Visitors praised the initiative for highlighting an important aspect of Arab and Islamic heritage.

Preserving cultural heritage

Fadila Al Muaini, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the UAE Journalists Association, said the exhibition reflects the association’s vision of preserving the region’s cultural heritage and promoting awareness of the value of traditional arts that have played an important role in shaping the history and identity of the Arab world.

She said the exhibition was not merely a display of valuable collections, but rather a journey through the memory of civilisation, recalling the importance of the written word, the sanctity of knowledge and the creativity of scholars, calligraphers and manuscript copyists.

“These manuscripts and artefacts stand as witnesses to the flourishing of Arab and Islamic culture throughout the centuries,” Al Muaini said.

She added that the association is keen to organise initiatives that bring together media and culture, contributing to the preservation of Arabic calligraphy and manuscripts as important sources of human creativity and ensuring that this rich heritage is passed on to current and future generations.

Calligrapher highlights importance of heritage

Artist and calligrapher Ali Abdullah Al Hammadi, the first Emirati calligrapher to own a private museum dedicated to rare Arabic calligraphy and historic Qur’anic manuscripts, said the ‘Nafais Al-Midad’ exhibition represents the culmination of a long journey of passion and research.

He said his work has involved collecting valuable artefacts, studying the history of Arabic writing and its artistic traditions, and highlighting the prestigious status of Arabic calligraphy as an authentic art form and an important carrier of Arab and Islamic identity.

Al Hammadi said his primary objective is to introduce the public, particularly younger generations, to the value of this cultural and civilisational heritage.

He also praised the UAE Journalists Association for its commitment to organising and supporting cultural initiatives that contribute to preserving heritage and promoting knowledge and cultural awareness.
