Dubai: The 1 Billion Followers Summit, one of the region’s largest gatherings for content creators, will return to Dubai from January 8 to 10, 2027, bringing together more than 500 speakers with a combined social media following of over four billion.

The fifth edition of the summit will focus on the rapidly evolving creator economy, with artificial intelligence, creator-led marketing and the growing business opportunities surrounding digital content taking centre stage.

Alia AlHammadi, Vice-Chairperson of the UAE Government Media Office and CEO of the 1 Billion Followers Summit, said the number of followers represented by the summit’s speakers has increased significantly. She said more than 500 speakers are expected to participate, collectively reaching an audience of more than four billion followers.

AI will be a major focus of the 2027 edition, with the programme moving beyond introductory discussions to explore practical applications of the technology. Sessions will feature case studies from brands and content creators on how AI is being used to develop, market and improve campaigns.

The summit will also examine the changing relationship between brands, media organisations and content creators, particularly as companies increasingly allocate marketing budgets to creator partnerships and year-round collaborations.

$1 Million AI Film Award

One of the major initiatives announced for the 2027 summit is a $1 million AI Film Award. Organisers said the previous competition attracted more than 30,000 submissions, with an even larger response expected for the upcoming edition.

The award is being organised in partnership with BytePlus, the enterprise technology services arm of ByteDance. TikTok has also joined the initiative this year to help expand its global reach.

TikTok will additionally partner with the summit for #1MillionStories, a competition inviting people to share personal stories about films and television series that have had a meaningful impact on their lives.

TikTok MENA Head of Content Operations Karen Haddad said the platform would expand its presence at the summit through a TikTok House and a TikTok LIVE booth, featuring creators from the entertainment and education sectors.

New Creator Market

The 2027 summit will also feature a full-day Instagram Creators Day, bringing together selected speakers for sessions focused on the platform and its creator community.

Another new initiative will be the Creator Market, which will showcase around 100 businesses founded or owned by content creators. The initiative reflects the growing trend of creators expanding beyond social media to establish their own companies, products and brands.

Organisers also plan to facilitate greater collaboration between creators and media organisations, creating opportunities for partnerships and new forms of content.

UAE’s Growing Creator Economy

AlHammadi highlighted the rapid expansion of the UAE’s creator community, noting that more than 14,000 people had applied to become members of Creators HQ. Following a selection process, around 5,000 members have been approved, with their combined social media following exceeding five billion.

The organisers said the figures demonstrate the growing influence and reach of the UAE’s creator ecosystem and its importance to the wider regional digital economy.

The fifth 1 Billion Followers Summit will be held at Emirates Towers and the Museum of the Future in Dubai from January 8 to 10, 2027.
