Sharjah Marks 49th National Day with Rich Musical Tribute to UAE’s Historic Journey

Sharjah:Al Majaz Amphitheatre lit up last night (Thursday) as Sharjah celebrated the 49th National Day of the founding of the UAE with a grand concert paying rich tributes to the nation’s extraordinary journey and historic achievements. 

Emirati singing superstar Hussein Al Jassmi along with other popular artists including Aryam, Jassim Muhammad, Faisal Al Jasem and Arib regaled the audience late into the night with popular numbers celebrating the UAE’s proud achievements, rich cultural heritage and shared Arab values and legacy of the region.  

Organised by the Sharjah Committee for the National Day Celebrations with the strictest precautionary health measures, the proceeds of the special concert are to go to support the humanitarian initiatives of the Big Heart Foundation in aid of the refugee children and their vulnerable families around the world, especially in the Arab world.

The concert was a huge draw with senior Sharjah officials and citizens and residents from across the Emirate and the UAE attending the celebration of the union and expressing their joy on this important milestone in the history of the UAE and the Arab world.

HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Committee for National Day Celebrations, thanked the participating artists for leading the celebrations with their rich musical tributes and outstanding performance, bringing citizens and residents together in an unprecedented expression of joy and love for the UAE and reaffirming their pride and sense of belonging in the nation and renewing the pledge of loyalty to the leadership.

Al Midfa lauded members of the audience for strictly following social distancing and other precautionary measures, pointing out that physical distancing proved no hindrance in celebrating this historic occasion. “We have all gathered with united hearts beating with joy and pride on this precious occasion for the people of the Emirates,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Hussein Al Jassmi thanked His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his constant support and patronage for artistes and the cultural sphere, which manifest itself in the strong position that the Emirate of Sharjah enjoys on this front.

Al Jasmi said: “Our hearts smile and rejoice on this day of pride and glory, renewing words of support and deeds of belonging to the homeland and its leaders, and celebrating our accomplishments with immense pride and love.”

The popular singer began the concert on a high note offering a rich bouquet of melodious songs full of patriotic fervour and love and joy on the country’s proud achievements over the last 49 years. It was a rich celebration of the past as well as hope and ambitions for the nation’s future in years ahead.

The uniquely designed Al Majaz Amphitheatre in the heart of Sharjah’s Khalid Lagoon lit up with the rich colours of the UAE national flag painting the sky over Buheirah Corniche in Emirati hues with hearts beating with love for the homeland.

On this occasion, Hussein Al Jassmi also sang the poetic masterpiece titled ‘My Dear People,’ of HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, with the verses and interactive optical letters adorning the walls of the stage in a magical interplay of colours.

The singer also sang a number of other songs celebrating the Emirati identity and heritage including the hit number "Emirati wa Kulli Fakhr" (I am an Emirati and am proud of it) with the audience joining him in a rising crescendo that pierced the sky.  Al Jassmi sailed with his fans to the magical world of piano when his fingertips played the melodies of “Awwal Ashq” (first love), a popular poem by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. He sang it exclusively for the audience of Al Majaz as this was the first time he performed it in Sharjah.

Al Jassmi also wowed the audience with other popular songs such "Balnat al Arid" on this occasion, transporting them to a magical world of Arabian nights.  

He was ably supported by other leading stars who turned the night into an endless celebration of music. Aryam presented hit numbers such as “Emirati, Nimrah, Ghalat,” and “Machoob” with an ecstatic public adding their voice to hers.

Jassim Mohammed performed songs like “Qali Shloun” and “Nashif Riqi while Arib sang “God, Dar Zayed, “do not bother him,” and “in the middle of my heart, followed by Faisal Al Jassim who presented “Hayy in Shahama,” Oh wow, Heyman!”

Ahead of the concert, breathtaking feats were performed in the waters of Khalid Lagoon, under the auspices of the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club.
