Shanghai SMTC Explores Dubai Traffic Department
- December 12, 2023Dubai: A delegation from Shanghai, China, recently visited the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police to explore opportunities for cooperation, joint coordination, and discuss matters of mutual interest.
Brigadier Mohammed Ali Karam, the Director of the Traffic Technologies Department at the General Department of Traffic in Dubai Police, warmly welcomed the Shanghai delegation, led by Mr. Han Shu, Vice Chairman of the Shipping Section of the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission (SMTC).
Brigadier Karam emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration, exchanging expertise, and facilitating visits between the two parties. He provided a comprehensive overview of the responsibilities and duties of the General Department of Traffic in ensuring road security, reducing accidents and fatalities, and enforcing laws that promote stability and public safety. Furthermore, he highlighted the crucial role of Dubai Police in maintaining security and order, as well as their highly skilled human resources and cutting-edge equipment and technologies utilized.
Following the meeting, Brigadier Karam accompanied the delegation on a tour of the Operations Room at the General Department of Traffic. During the tour, they received a comprehensive brief on the latest intelligent control systems deployed to manage traffic flow throughout the emirate. The Remote Monitoring System (RMS) was highlighted as a critical tool for monitoring the operational efficiency of various technical traffic control systems. Moreover, the delegation gained valuable insights into the traffic conditions, such as congestion levels and vehicle density.
The delegation was also given a brief about the intelligent surveillance cameras that automatically detect and manage certain traffic violations, which can identify input data, issue traffic fines, and transmit them to the Traffic Control Unit. Furthermore, they were introduced to vehicle control and tracking systems, which accurately track wanted vehicles for traffic or criminal purposes. These systems aid in identifying traffic violations, determining the time of occurrence, and identifying the responsible driver.
The Shanghai delegation was also given a comprehensive overview of the procedures for receiving and tracking traffic reports submitted by the public through the 'We Are All Police' program. Finally, they were briefed on the methods employed for handling and categorizing violations.
