Dubai: The International Centre for Forensic Sciences (ICFS) at the General Department of Forensics and Criminology at Dubai Police successfully passed global proficiency tests in various specialities related to forensic evidence examinations with a 100% success rate last year.

These tests included 62 proficiency assessments covering areas like biology and DNA, digital evidence, explosives, fingerprints, weapons and tools examination, forensic chemistry, document examination, forensic toxicology, and trace evidence analysis.

Expert Dr Colonel Rashid Hamdan Al Ghafri, Director of the ICFS, stated that the centre's annual participation in these proficiency tests stems from their commitment to applying the highest international quality standards in forensic evidence examinations across various specialized sciences.

"This aligns with the directives of His Excellency Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, to keep pace with the best international practices in all specialities and to continually stay abreast of the latest advancements made by developed countries in scientific fields," he said.

Al Ghafri added, "We also conducted, in cooperation with Collaborative Testing Services (CTS), the global test in the field of crime scene management according to ISO/IEC 17043 standards.

"This measures the proficiency of crime scene experts in the General Department of Forensics and Criminology. This proficiency test, the first of its kind conducted outside the United States on a global level, is part of our annual plan to monitor and ensure the quality of work of all forensic experts at Dubai Police," he concluded.
