Dubai: As part of its ongoing commitment to the rehabilitation and social reintegration of inmates, Dubai Police’s General Department of Correctional and Punitive Institutions, through its Inmate Education and Training Department, organised two awareness lectures in collaboration with the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural Centre.

The lectures aimed to promote positive thinking and mental wellbeing among inmates, supporting the department’s broader efforts to rehabilitate individuals and prepare them to become productive members of society. These initiatives are designed to instil positive values and open new pathways for inmates as they prepare to re-enter their communities.

The first lecture, titled “Horizons of Hope: Your Steps Towards Happiness”, was delivered by Dr Amina Al Majid to 24 inmates. It focused on several key themes, including setting personal and professional goals after release, managing negative emotions, overcoming psychological and social challenges, and the importance of both self and social support in achieving lasting change.

The second session, titled “Simple Exercises to Let Go of Guilt”, was presented by Ms Aisha Al Jabri to 19 inmates. It explored practical exercises featured in a book aimed at helping individuals release negative emotions. The lecture also highlighted the transformative power of reading within correctional institutions and stressed the importance of self-respect and avoiding harmful comparisons with others to support mental and emotional wellbeing.
