Music Becomes a Bridge: Students’ Tribute Celebrates UAE–India Friendship
- April 10, 2026
Dubai: A heartfelt musical tribute by a group of young Indian students in the UAE has struck an emotional chord across communities, emerging as a powerful symbol of the deep cultural and emotional bond shared by India and the UAE.
The viral video, created by Dubai-based Indian performing arts hub Malhaar, features 13 school-going Indian children performing the UAE National Anthem using Indian classical musical instruments. What began as a simple artistic gesture quickly gained momentum, spreading across WhatsApp groups, social media platforms, school communities, and official circles.
By Wednesday evening, the tribute had been shared by school principals, educational institutions, UAE authorities including KHDA, and Indian Ambassador to the UAE Dr Deepak Mittal.
A Simple Visual, A Powerful Message
Shot against a plain white background, the video shows children dressed in white Indian ethnic attire with scarves in the colours of the UAE flag. The minimalist presentation places full focus on the message of unity, harmony, and shared respect.
The accompanying message in the video describes the performance as “an offering of harmony, friendship, and shared cultural respect,” adding that it reflects the strong bond between India and the UAE while standing as a message of peace and solidarity.
Inspiration Rooted in Belonging
Jogiraj Sikidar, founder and director of Malhaar, who conceptualised and directed the video, said the idea was born from a deep sense of gratitude and belonging.
He explained that during a recent period of regional tension, residents found reassurance in the way UAE authorities supported the community. A highway message reading “In the UAE, all are Emiratis” left a profound impact on him.
“That message touched me deeply and strengthened my sense of belonging,” Sikidar said, adding that he wanted to give back to a country that has been his home for over two decades.
Indian Classical Instruments Bring Anthem to Life
The tribute features a rich ensemble of Indian classical instruments, including harmonium, tabla, tabla tarang, dholak, pakhawaj, sitar, sarod, flute, and jal tarang, all performed by Malhaar students.
The music arrangement was led by Deborshee Mukherjee, one of Malhaar’s gurus, who seamlessly blended the diverse sounds into a moving composition.
The project was produced in collaboration with Masterkopy Films, with cinematography by Kapil Verma, who described the project as deeply personal, noting that his family’s third generation now lives in the UAE.
Emotional Response Across Communities
The response was immediate and deeply emotional. Parents, residents, and former students described the video as nostalgic, goosebump-inducing, and moving to tears.
Many said the anthem instantly brought back memories of school mornings in the UAE — the rush to school gates, traffic queues, and the familiar sound of the national anthem playing in the background.
For long-time residents, the video rekindled memories tied not only to education but also to family life and identity in the Emirates.
Sikidar said the emotional reactions helped him realise how deeply school memories in the UAE remain part of people’s lives long after they leave.
Praise From Diplomats and Education Leaders
The tribute also received recognition from diplomatic and education leaders.
The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi shared the video on its official social media channels, calling it “a heartwarming display of friendship between India and the UAE.”
Indian Ambassador Dr Deepak Mittal praised it as “an outstanding rendition of the UAE National Anthem by students of Malhaar on Indian classical instruments.”
Education leaders from GEMS Education, including Nargish Khambatta and Asha Alexander, also lauded the performance as a beautiful tribute that resonated strongly with students, teachers, and school communities.
More Than a Performance
For many viewers, the video has become more than a musical piece. It serves as a reminder of shared lives, shared memories, and a shared sense of home between two nations.
As millions of Indians continue to live and thrive in the UAE, the tribute stands as a moving reflection of how both countries remain deeply connected through culture, memory, and belonging.
