Sharjah: Sharjah Police have arrested a motorist who carried out dangerous and reckless driving stunts inside a residential area in Sharjah. The incident involved serious traffic violations that endangered public safety.
Investigation

Following a report, the relevant authorities acted immediately. They relied on video footage captured through surveillance cameras, in cooperation with local residents. This helped quickly identify the vehicle and take legal action against the driver.

Legal violations and penalties

Sharjah Police explained that reckless and careless driving is considered a serious offence under Article 1 of the traffic law. It refers to driving in a way that endangers the driver’s life or the lives and safety of others, or that may cause damage to public or private property. The penalty includes a fine of 2,000 AED, 23 black points, vehicle impoundment for 60 days, and release fees of up to 15,000 AED.

They also noted that Article 73 of the traffic law criminalises modifications to a vehicle’s engine or chassis without authorisation. This carries a 1,000 AED fine, 12 black points, impoundment for 90 days, and release fees of up to 5,000 AED, due to the significant risk such modifications pose to lives and property.

Community cooperation

The police highlighted the importance of community partnership, stating that residents play a key role as security partners by supporting police efforts and enabling faster response to incidents. This reflects a high level of public awareness and responsibility.

They urged the public to report negative or dangerous behaviour through official channels, or by calling 999 for emergencies and 901 for non-emergency cases, in order to enhance safety, stability, and quality of life in the emirate.
