Dubai: The Positive Spirit Council at Dubai Police, in cooperation with the General Department of Human Rights, Bur Dubai Police Station, and the 'Thank You for Your Giving' volunteer initiative, organised the 'Shade and Reward' initiative for the second consecutive week in the China Railway – Marais area, targeting the labour community. This is part of ongoing efforts to promote the values of compassion and human solidarity, and to reinforce a culture of community responsibility.

The initiative saw the attendance of over 700 labourers, who received a range of services and humanitarian support, including cold water, umbrellas, and meals, along with awareness messages designed to enhance worker safety during periods of high temperatures.

As part of the initiative's commitment to occupational safety, labourers were educated about the risks of heat stress, particularly as summer reaches its peak. These efforts align with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation 'Midday Work Ban' policy, which prohibits outdoor work under direct sunlight from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM, effective from 15 June to 15 September. The policy aims to protect labourers from heat stress – the body's internal pressure and vital response to adapt to high temperatures – which requires strict prevention and adherence to safety measures.

Ms. Fatima Ahmed Buhajeer, Chairperson of the Positive Spirit Council, affirmed that the 'Shade and Reward' initiative embodies the deep human values upon which the UAE is built, respecting human dignity and strengthening solidarity among all segments of society.

Buhajeer stated: "At the Positive Spirit Council, we are keen to reach labourers in their locations and deliver initiatives that carry messages of appreciation and gratitude for their great efforts in building the nation. The 'Shade and Reward' initiative is not just an event, but a humanitarian message that expresses the values of loyalty and giving that we believe in, and reflects the spirit of cooperation among all partners to ensure the success of these efforts."

She added: "Enhancing awareness of the risks of heat stress is part of our pivotal role in preserving the safety of human resources and safeguarding their field achievements, ensuring a safe and sustainable work environment that protects labourers and values their efforts in various locations."

At the end of the initiative, the labourers expressed their thanks and gratitude for this humanitarian gesture, affirming that such initiatives reflect the humanitarian and civilised image of the UAE and its ongoing commitment to putting people first.
