Sharjah: The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has completed the Al Hisn Island bridge project in Dibba Al Hisn, at a cost exceeding Dhs30 million. The 54-metre bridge is part of SRTA's strategic infrastructure programme to develop the emirate's road network and improve efficiency.
The bridge spans the Dibba Al Hisn waterway, linking the two sides of the island and easing traffic flow. It is designed to improve access and mobility in line with the emirate's ongoing urban growth.

SRTA said the project fits within its wider strategic plans to upgrade roads and transport across the emirate's cities and regions, building infrastructure that strengthens road safety, improves links between key areas, and supports sustainable development and quality of life.

Traffic connectivity

The dual carriageway runs 320 metres, connecting the island's inner roundabout with the outer roundabout on Dibba Al Hisn Beach Road, giving the island a direct route in and out and improving links between its facilities and the surrounding urban area.

The road has two lanes in each direction, each 7.3 metres wide, separated by a 4.6-metre median. Pedestrian walkways 3 metres wide run along both sides, alongside decorative lighting columns spanning the length of the project on both sides and four pedestrian staircases, providing a safe, integrated environment for all road users.

Reflecting local identity

The bridge's design draws on Sharjah's architectural and aesthetic identity, with features and finishes intended to reflect the emirate's character and align with the identity of Dibba Al Hisn — a city that His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has referred to as "the Utopian City." The bridge is intended to stand as a landmark that adds to the city's urban landscape.

SRTA said the design combines engineering efficiency with aesthetic considerations in keeping with Dibba Al Hisn's urban character, while incorporating service features to ensure safety and comfort for drivers and pedestrians alike.

Part of sustainable development plans

The project forms part of SRTA's continuing efforts to develop the emirate's road infrastructure, in line with the vision of the Ruler of Sharjah to improve life for citizens and residents through infrastructure projects that support sustainable urban development.

The bridge is expected to ease access to and from Al Hisn Island, improve traffic flow, and support residents' and visitors' mobility. SRTA said it also carries strategic weight for the island given the development projects under way there, including residential buildings, a specialist hospital, commercial centres, and tourism and leisure facilities—all aimed at preparing the island to accommodate growing numbers of residents and visitors and reinforcing its position as an integrated urban and tourism destination.
