Qatar Amir, Oman Sultan reaffirm strong ties and expand cooperation in Doha

Doha: Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq held talks in Doha on Sunday, reaffirming the longstanding ties between the two Gulf nations and discussing ways to expand bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the two leaders to review the strong relations between Qatar and Oman and explore avenues to further develop cooperation. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Leaders reaffirm commitment to stronger partnership
According to an official statement issued by the Amiri Diwan, Sheikh Tamim welcomed Sultan Haitham and his accompanying delegation to Doha, expressing appreciation for the strong relations between Qatar and Oman.
The Qatari Amir reaffirmed Doha’s commitment to strengthening the bilateral partnership in a manner that serves the shared interests and aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.
Sultan Haitham, in turn, expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him and his delegation. He reiterated Oman’s commitment to enhancing coordination with Qatar and strengthening the fraternal ties between the two countries.
The Sultan said the talks would help open broader horizons for joint cooperation across various fields.
Defence, trade and energy among key areas
The discussions covered a wide range of areas, including defence, trade, energy, foreign policy and regional security. Senior officials from both governments attended the talks.
The Qatari delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, and Chief of the Amiri Diwan Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi.
Also attending were Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al Thani, Minister of Transport Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Thani, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi.
The Omani delegation included Minister of State and Governor of Muscat Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Minister of the Royal Office Lieutenant General Sultan bin Mohammed Al Numani, Minister of Interior Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, and Minister of Energy and Minerals Engineer Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi.
Following the official talks, Sheikh Tamim hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of Sultan Haitham and his accompanying delegation.
Qatar and Oman deepen strategic coordination
The Doha summit highlighted the steady expansion of relations between Qatar and Oman over the past decade. The two countries maintain close economic ties and broadly aligned positions on a number of regional issues.
Both Doha and Muscat have consistently supported dialogue and peaceful solutions to conflicts in the Middle East and have called for efforts to reduce tensions across the Gulf and the wider region.
The two countries have also called for an end to the war in Gaza and stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty of regional states to prevent further escalation and safeguard regional stability.
Sultan Haitham’s visit concluded on Sunday afternoon, with Sheikh Tamim personally leading the farewell ceremony for the Omani Sultan at the Amiri Hall of Hamad International Airport.
The visit reaffirmed the strong and enduring partnership between Qatar and Oman and their shared commitment to expanding cooperation and promoting regional stability.
