Clean Up UAE conducted in Ajman under the Patronage of Ministry of Economy

Ajman:The 18th session of the Annual EEG Clean Up UAE reached the Emirate of Ajman at the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum road on Tuesday, 10th of December under the Patronage of the Ministry of Economy and in association with the Municipality and Planning Department – Government of Ajman.

With 250 volunteers bearing the slogan of the campaign adorning the campaign tshirts, caps, and equipped with cotton gloves, biodegradable plastic bags and containers for the collection of waste, where the participants effectively collected about 1.5 tonnes of waste and covered an area of 5 km2 at 3 Locations. In addition, each participant was provided with refreshments (water, juice, and snacks).

EEG looks forward to the active participation of all sectors of the society in the upcoming campaigns taking place as per the following schedule:

· 14th Dec – Dubai

· 15th Dec – Abu Dhabi

· 16th Dec – Fujairah

· 17th Dec – Ras Al Khaimah

Mrs. Habiba Al Mara’shi, Chairperson of the Emirates Environmental Working Group welcomed all the participants at the Ajman site and she briefed them on the achievements of the campaign which started its journey on Thursday, 5th of December in Al Maliha area in Sharjah whereby 1,000 volunteers successfully collected 2.5 tons of waste. The campaign continued its successful journey in Umm Al Quwain at the Fishermen wharf on the 7th of December as 350 volunteers collected 3 tons of waste. She stated the importance of involving all segments of society in waste collection and recycling to march towards a positive change in the country and help create a recycling culture in the community.

She further added in her speech: “The group aims to mobilise the efforts of all segments of the society and engage people to work together in a common platform to address sustainability issues on a massive scale. We are very pleased with the active participation from the public and private sectors, academic institutions, students, and families. We are delighted that everyone answered the call of the noble goal of preserving the environment of our beloved country, and we need to work together for a better environment”.

At the end of her speech, she thanked the sponsors and supporters of the campaign in the Emirate of Ajman and expressed her gratitude to the Municplaity and Planning Department – Government of Ajman for their effective contribution to the success of the campaign, Nestle Middle East for water supply, Fujairah Plastic Factory for providing biodegradable plastic bags, AlMarai for providing juices. She also thanked the group’s media partner; Gulf news for their continuous support and Al Murad Group for their radio coverage of the campaign.

As an accredited body of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), EEG is proud to record positive achievements of the Clean Up UAE 2019 campaign in serving as an effective implementation platform for the following sustainable development goals: Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities; Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production; 13: Climate Action; Goal 15: Life on Earth; Goal 17: Partnerships for Goals.
