The film is considered by film critics to be a revelation of the harsh reality of dams. It made them realize that the structures that can provide water and light to the people have the power to shove them into darkness forever.
Wikipedia describes Mullaperiyar as the tallest dam in the world. It is approx. Seven times the height of the Banquio Dam in China, which claimed the lives of more than 250,000 people when it collapsed in 1975. The Maharaja of Travancore, Visakham Thirunal Rama Varma, had made a 999 valid agreement with the British called the 'Periyar Lease Agreement.' The agreement, which came into force on October 29, 1886, agreed to build the Mullaperiyar Dam and supply water from the Periyar to Tamil Nadu through the Vaiga River for 999 years. It was later renewed by the Achutha Menon government after the independence of India. According to old technology, the irrelevance of renewing the contract of a dam for 999 years, which is unlikely to last more than 100 years, has been pointed out several times. The controversy over the relationship between the film and Mullaperiyar began with the assessment that the number '999' was meant to be a clue to this impropriety.
DAM 999 is produced by the UAE-based 'Biz TV Network.', The film stars Vinay Rai, Ashish Vidyarthi, Rajit Kapoor, Vimala Raman, Linda Arsenio, and Joshua Frederick Smith in various roles. National award winners from various states worked behind the film. Ajay Vincent handled the camera, and music was given by Ouseppachan.
