Dubai: Brigadier Rashid Khalifa Al Falasi, Deputy Director of the General Department of Protective Security and Emergency in Dubai Police, has recently welcomed a delegation of students from the Dubai International School in Al Barsha, who wanted to get a closer look at the process of preparing the iftar cannon. 

Brig. Al Falasi welcomed the students in the Atlantis -Palm Jumeirah and stressed Dubai Police’s keenness to preserve Ramadan rituals and keep the tradition of iftar cannons alive as they remind people of the time they could begin and end their fast. 

The British-made 25 PDR MK1L Conons piece of artillery has a sound range of 170 decibels, which Brig. Al Falasi explained it reached most residential communities in the past, but due to urban development, the range has decreased.

Brig. Al Falasi said they had stationed cannons in five locations across the emirates, including Atlantis -the Palm, Burj Khalifa, Al Seef, Al Waheda at Century Mall Dubai, and Hatta in front of Emirates Cooperative Society and Hatta Hill Park.  

He further noted that this year Dubai Police is dispatching mobile cannons in another 11 areas across the emirate, including Al Satwa near the Big Mosque, Al Qouz near Al Anbiya’a Mosque, Al Lisaili near Al Nahda National School, Lahbab near Lahbab Community Park 1, Al Aweer near Sheikh Hamdan Mosque, Al Khawaneej near Ahmed Al Habbai Mosque, and Muhaisnah near Abdul Rahim Mohammed Kti Mosque. 

In turn, students of the Dubai International School expressed their happiness for attending the firing of the Iftar cannon and wished the Dubai Police continued progress and prosperity.
