Sharjah: As the UAE and the Emirate of Sharjah gear up for the biggest-ever showcase of their favourite Xposure International Photography Festival (Xposure), which will be home to 74 leading photographers, their ideas and their best works for a week from February 9 - 15, the event’s organisers have confirmed that preparations are on track to continue the festival’s monumental growth after experiencing a 125% increase in footfall last year. 

On a visit today (Monday) to the festival’s venue in Expo Centre Sharjah, HE Tariq Saeed Allay, Director General of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), noted, “We are ready to welcome lovers of images and imagination at the Xposure International Photography Festival 2023”, upon conducting a thorough inspection of the event’s final preparations. 

“The stage is set to educate, entertain and ignite the minds of established and upcoming professionals, hobbyists and art collectors as they engage with industry experts, thought leaders, traders, directors and producers, architects, conservationists, environmentalists, and others who represent this field. The organisers have fused their passion and hard work to create a festival itinerary that is poised to take Sharjah’s globally admired cultural movement to new heights. I am certain that the upcoming edition will not only allow participants the opportunity to hone their craft and learn about the latest practices and innovations in the field, but also pave the way for groundbreaking discussions that will help us shape a better tomorrow, for us and our planet.”  

The Conservation Summit, which was introduced at Xposure last year, will continue to spotlight the crucial role of photography in boosting awareness about what every individual can contribute towards reversing the impact of climate change by preserving and protecting our environment and precious natural resources. The exciting festival agenda includes 68 solo and group exhibitions that will display 1,794 impressive prints, 41 talks, 63 workshops and focus groups, 50 portfolio reviews, more than 40 activations at the newly introduced Stage X, a photo fair, equipment trade show, book signings, and an awards ceremony to honour the winners of the International Photography & Film Award and Independent Freelancer Photojournalism Award which received a total of over 17,000 entries from 180 nations this year.
