Dubai: Marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Dubai Police will release a new episode of its #Recovered podcast tomorrow, Friday, at 7:00 pm on its official YouTube channel.

Produced by the Security Awareness Department at the General Department of Community Happiness, the episode is part of Dubai Police’s ongoing efforts to raise public awareness of the dangers of drug abuse, its root causes, and effective prevention strategies, with a particular focus on family breakdown.

The episode explores one of the most significant factors affecting young people, family breakdown and its impact on delinquency and drug addiction. Dr Jassim Al Marzouqi, a specialist in psychological and educational counselling, discusses how family stability shapes children’s mental wellbeing and behaviour during an in depth conversation hosted by Mahra Al Marzouqi.

The discussion examines the family’s role as the first line of defence in protecting children and explains how ongoing family conflict, emotional neglect, and a lack of positive guidance can drive some young people to seek unhealthy ways of escaping psychological pressures, ultimately increasing the risk of drug use and addiction.

Dr Al Marzouqi also examines the reality of family breakdown in Arab societies and its impact on children, drawing on real life examples that illustrate how the home environment influences young people’s personalities and life choices. He also outlines the early warning signs families should recognise to help protect their children from risky behaviours.
