Dubai Police Honours Mental Health Champions for Strengthening Workplace Wellbeing

Dubai: Dubai Police has recognised outstanding Mental Health First Aiders for their exceptional contributions to promoting psychological wellbeing and improving quality of life in the workplace, reaffirming its commitment to placing employee wellbeing at the heart of institutional excellence.

The recognition ceremony, organised by the Quality of Life Centre under the Administrative Affairs Sector, was held at the Dubai Police Officers Club in appreciation of employees who have played a leading role in promoting mental health awareness and providing early psychological support to colleagues.

Major General Dr Saleh Abdullah Murad, Assistant Commander in Chief for Administrative Affairs, attended the ceremony alongside Awatif Al Suwaidi, Director of the Quality of Life Centre, senior officers, officials and Mental Health First Aiders.

Investing in Employee Wellbeing
Major General Dr Murad said Dubai Police places people at the centre of its priorities, recognising that investing in employees’ mental wellbeing and quality of life is fundamental to achieving institutional excellence and sustainable performance.

He noted that recognising Mental Health First Aiders reflects appreciation for their vital role in supporting colleagues, strengthening workplace cohesion and fostering a positive work environment that enhances employee happiness and job satisfaction.

He added that Dubai Police continues to develop specialised initiatives and programmes that promote quality of life and support government efforts to build a more aware, cohesive and happier society, while reinforcing a culture of early psychological support and recognising employees who demonstrate dedication, innovation and a strong spirit of giving.

A Pioneering Initiative
Dr Ian Gray, Clinical Psychologist and specialist in forensic psychology, highlighted the importance of the Mental Health First Aider initiative in strengthening early psychological support and prevention within the policing environment.

He described the programme as a pioneering initiative that reflects Dubai Police’s commitment to enhancing workplace mental health by preparing qualified personnel capable of providing psychological first aid and raising awareness among employees.

Recognising Excellence
During the ceremony, Major General Dr Murad, accompanied by Major Marwan Al Bahri, Director of the Institutional Development Office for Administrative Affairs, and Awatif Al Suwaidi, honoured the programme’s top performers.
Second Lieutenant Dananeer Al Muhairi from Al Qusais Police Station received first place, while expert Lina Mohammed Ameiri from the General Department of Forensic Evidence and Criminology secured second place. Maha Mohammed Ahmed and Muzna Saud Al Blooshi from the General Department of Transport and Rescue shared third place, and First Lieutenant Sheikh Khalifa bin Hashr from the General Department of Protective Security and Emergency took fourth place.
Dubai Police also recognised the General Department of Airport Security and the General Department of Criminal Investigation for their outstanding role in promoting mental health awareness and quality of life across the organisation. Additional Mental Health First Aiders were honoured for their continued dedication to supporting colleagues and fostering a positive workplace culture.

Building a Culture of Early Support
The event also featured a panel discussion exploring the role of Mental Health First Aiders in promoting psychological wellbeing and enhancing quality of life in the workplace. Speakers discussed key challenges, future development needs and ways to further empower Mental Health First Aiders to deliver effective support.
The discussion highlighted that Mental Health First Aid provides immediate support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges or psychological crises until specialist care becomes available. Mental Health First Aiders use the internationally recognised ALGEE action plan by approaching and listening to individuals, offering reassurance and information, encouraging professional help and connecting them with additional support, without diagnosing or providing treatment.

The programme also supports people experiencing severe psychological distress following trauma, crises or personal loss, while encouraging wider awareness of specialised support services and participation in initiatives that promote mental health and quality of life.
