Dubai: Dubai Police has officially launched the Caliber® Mini-FLEX, a state-of-the-art tactical robot designed for high-risk operations, marking a significant step forward in the force’s ongoing strategy to enhance field readiness through smart technologies and advanced tactical equipment.

The unveiling was led by His Excellency Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations at Dubai Police, in the presence of Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic; Brigadier Badran Al Shamsi, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Academic Affairs and Training; Brigadier Musabbah Al Ghafli, Director of the General Department of Protective Security and Emergency; his deputy Brigadier Obaid bin Yarouf; Expert  Colonel Khalifa Hassan Issa, Director of the Explosives Security Department; and several officers from the department. Also in attendance was the Director of ICOR, the Canadian manufacturer of the robot. The event was held on the sidelines of the World Police Summit at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Strategic Technological Investment

Major General Al Ghaithi stressed that deploying this specialised robot reflects Dubai Police’s dedication to bolstering its technical infrastructure and equipping field teams with the latest tools to ensure safe and effective operations in complex environments.

“Partnering with leading international firms such as ICOR showcases our commitment to adopting global best practices and integrating them within a comprehensive security system aligned with Dubai’s strategic goals,” he said.

Technical Features and Capabilities

The Caliber® Mini-FLEX is a lightweight, agile robot weighing only 36.7 kg, capable of carrying objects up to 11 kg. It is designed to navigate tight or hazardous spaces and can climb stairs at angles of up to 45 degrees, thanks to its advanced front and rear articulated legs that move within a range of -143° to +77°.

Equipped with a high-resolution camera system (1080×720 pixels), the robot features front, rear, and 10x optical zoom cameras, along with an arm-mounted camera supported by dual LED lighting (infrared and white light), allowing clear vision in all lighting conditions.

The robot is operated through a portable control unit with a 10.1-inch touchscreen and supports IP Mesh technology, enabling collaborative deployment alongside other FLEX robots. It can be controlled manually or with a Logitech gaming-style controller, offering flexibility in field operations.

Additional features include a non-recoil water disruptor system, a weapon-mounted camera, a single firing circuit, and a collision alert system. It also supports live audio and video streaming, providing field teams with critical real-time situational awareness through a 3D interface displaying the robot’s status, location, and active attachments.
